Great Week on the Waterfront

It’s been a great week on the waterfront! Spring is here and all of our parks are in full bloom. It was sunny and beautiful on Thursday, so I walked through Penn Treaty Park, where there were many people using the park in all different ways:

  • group of people playing frisbee
  • group of people picnicking under a tree
  • kids standing on big rocks at the river’s edge tossing little rocks into the river (I LOVE to do this too!)
  • several dog walkers
  • group of older gentlemen sitting under trees
  • kids playing in playground
  • tiny little kids in a soccer league getting a lesson by coach

So nice to see people out and about enjoying the park!

Exciting news at work this week:

  • DRWC announced the summer events and programming calendar and unveiled a brand new stage at Penn’s Landing. Mayor Nutter made remarks and announced that the Philadelphia Orchestra will be playing a free concert on the new stage on July 3!
  • We hired two summer interns from the City and Regional Planning program at UPenn. Congrats to Karen Thompson and Anthony Riederer who will be working with Sarah and Joe on the master plan, Race Street Pier, Race Street Connector, and Pier 53 projects over the summer
  • In master planning news, the consultants are preparing for the working group meeting next week by reducing their power point presentation from 280 slides to 60. The working group will be previewing the presentation, which will be shown at the first Public Forum on June 7. Also worked with Lime Projects to pick graphic designs for website and develop website wireframes. So excited to launch the website!
